September 28- October 2

Weekly Topics: Reading Street Unit 1 Week 4, Math Topic 1

Reading:

What is the author's purpose of writing a text? Authors use different words to indicate if they are writing to persuade, inform, or entertain. Using the acronym PIE you can ask your child to tell you what it would sound like to persuade someone to like or dislike pie, to give information, and to tell an entertaining story about pie.

Spelling:

Our new spelling pattern is words with Long E sounds ------>

Language:

Compound sentences are two sentences combined with and, or, or but. We have also began to learn about idioms and so moving forward your child should be able to identify idioms on weekly homework.

Math:

Connecting multiplication and division facts together. On the Back to School night note, I wrote of the importance of multiplication facts in fourth grade. We have began to work on multiplication testing and many students are struggling to pass of their 2's and 3's. Please ask your child where they are and practice accordingly.

Science:

The Water Cycle- Things to know: evaporation, condensation, transpiration, precipitation, run-off, the sun provides energy
Weather- this is an easy to review topic. As you are driving ask your child about the weather and what a weather forecaster may say about the weather. (i.e. high pressure, low pressure, cloud types, thunderstorms, sunny, etc...)
